We strongly believe in giving young people a helping hand when it comes to making a positive start on the career ladder - which is why we are proud to partner with Shrewsbury Colleges Group as a member of its Skills Advisory Panel.
Today's young people are our workforce of the future, and it is important that they receive the support and guidance necessary to ensure that they begin their career path on the right track.
Skills Advisory Panels
Shrewsbury Colleges Group currently works with about 600 businesses across a range of industrial sectors in its commitment to successfully match students with employers.
One of the ways the college is accomplishing this is through its Skills Advisory Panels. The panels were set up as a response to the Marches Local Skills Improvement Plan, which in turn has resulted in over 3,500 individuals taking part in or completing qualifications and training in the region’s priority sectors of digital, professional, health and care, engineering and construction.
Supporting young people
Our CEO Dan said: “EPX is really pleased to partner with the college, support school leavers, and equip young people with the skills they need. Providing them with work experience helps them experience the sector and work alongside our team to see how they work day-to-day in an IT industry. We look forward to continuing to support the college and its young people."
Digital sector
Mike Needham, of Shrewsbury Colleges Group, said: “EPX are a key partner of the college and sits on the college’s Skills Advisory Panel for the digital sector. These panels have been set up to allow for a closer working relationship between the college and the different industry sectors to ensure that the college is training students with the right skills for that area of work.
“EPX has worked closely with the college on the rollout of the new T-Level qualifications for school leavers with two T-Levels, which is aimed at equipping students with digital skills and work experience specialising in digital support services as well as design and development of digital systems.
T-Level qualifications
“EPX has provided several work placement opportunities for the college’s students to provide real-life work experience to go alongside their academic studies. The company also supported a mock recruitment event which gave T-level students invaluable interview practice.
Preparation for employment
“The interview practice and feedback were an integral part of their preparation for employment, and they have hugely aided the students in finding their industry placement.
“In the future, the Skills Advisory Panels will help the college become a centre for business development and innovation, with further investment in local skills priorities. This ambition will be delivered through a tailored plan to meet local skills needs and develop a training approach that works for all employers.
“These panels have helped the college secure £585k in Government funding to help develop local employer partnerships, support curriculum design, upskill existing college staff and help promote the training opportunities.”
