Prepare for Windows 10 end of life now

For businesses with a large number of computer users, IT changes cannot be made overnight.

With the Windows 10 end-of-life (EOL) deadline approaching, now is the time to start planning for upgrades and replacements - not when the countdown reaches zero.

If you know that you need to start the process and need support, you can book a call to speak to our team.

Windows 10 End of Life

Microsoft has set 14th October 2025 as the EOL date - Windows 10 will still work for users after this date but it will not receive software updates, new features or fixes.

An extended security updates option (ESU) will be available at an extra charge to receive critical updates, but this will not include other types of updates or support.

Can you afford to delay?

Many companies make the mistake of waiting until the last minute to address major operating system changes. This can result in:

  • Hardware shortages – as demand spikes closer to EOL, suppliers struggle to keep up.
  • Higher costs – prices increase due to last-minute purchases and emergency support.
  • Operational disruptions – rushed rollouts lead to downtime, user frustration, and security risks.
  • Limited IT resources – your IT team or external provider may be stretched thin with other businesses facing the same issue.

The key to a smooth transition: planning early

For companies with a large number of users, replacing machines, upgrading software, and ensuring system compatibility takes time. To avoid a last-minute scramble, businesses should follow these steps:

  1. Audit IT infrastructure
    • Identify machines that won’t support future Windows versions.
    • Check software compatibility to avoid unexpected issues.
  2. Create a phased upgrade plan
    • Prioritise high-risk systems (older machines, business-critical apps).
    • Schedule upgrades in waves to minimise downtime.
  3. Budget and secure resources in advance
    • Avoid inflated costs by securing licenses and hardware early.
  4. Test before you deploy
    • Pilot the upgrade with a small group before rolling it out company-wide.
    • Train employees on changes to minimise disruptions.
  5. Engage IT support now
    • If you rely on an external IT provider, secure their availability early.
    • Don’t risk being at the back of the queue when the deadline hits.

Act now to stay ahead

While Windows 10’s end of life may seem far away, businesses that wait too long will find themselves in a tough position. The earlier you start planning, the smoother and more cost-effective the transition will be.
