|Energy Management policy - save energy and reduce spending

This week sees the world marking Energy Efficiency Day - and in the world of IT millions of employees can make a small effort to save energy and make a real difference.

World Energy Efficiency Day raises awareness of the need to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable energy use - something businesses across the globe are looking to action in the coming years.

For large businesses, the simple action of ensuring employees turn off lights and electrical devices when not in use can support this aim.

Reduce overspending

Dan Ellis, CEO of EPX Technical Services, says: “EPX has partnered with a new company that aims to save energy use across the board - PC Powersave is a brand new venture to reduce carbon emissions on IT equipment, and we are not only using it here at EPX but also for our customers.

“One customer alone was overspending on energy by £500 a month just because they left their computers switched on overnight. We implemented PC Powersave, and that overspending has been eliminated - and 344kg of CO2 has been saved monthly!

“We are committed to working with our employees, and our customers to work towards a more sustainable way of business working, and the use of PC Powersave is a huge step in the right direction.”

Reduce energy consumption

PC Powersave can save energy using intelligent shutdowns, subtle CPU power management, dynamic power profiles and rogue process alerting tools all work together to reduce the energy consumption of your client’s computer systems.

Energy Management Policy

Many large businesses are now working to create an Energy Management Policy to set out in writing the way they will use energy and what saving targets they hope to achieve.

Policies usually outline the way in which a business will meet targets and what contributions are expected from CEOs, managers, and staff.

Ensure targets are achievable

“It is integral that managers work with IT support - whether internal or external - to produce these policies, in order to ensure that the targets are achievable and that the company systems allow the steps they lay out,” adds Dan.

“As IT consultants, we are able to work with clients to plan for the future and support them in both the creation and implementation of policies.”
