Productive utilities don't have to be huge programmes to have a big impact on how we work and what we achieve!
In this week's blog we are looking at some of the tools that help you work more productively with clever shortcuts - from previews without having to open multiple applications to typing accented characters more efficiently.
Paste as Plain Text
This allows you to paste text from your clipboard, excluding text-formatting with a quick key shortcut - (Ctrl + Win + V)
Any formatting included with the clipboard text will be replaced with an unformatted version of the text.
Enabling - to start using Paste as Plain Text, enable it in the PowerToys settings (Paste as Plain Text tab).
Peek
Peek allows you to preview file content without having to open up multiple applications - which can interrupt workflow.
To use Peek, simply select the file and use the shortcut Ctrl + Space.
It offers quick file preview for various file types, including images, Office documents, web pages and text files.
The Peek window adjusts its size based on the dimensions of the images being previewed.
PowerRename
This tool enables bulk renaming, searching and replacing file names. It includes advanced features, such as using regular expressions, targeting specific file types, previewing expected results and the ability to undo changes.
Quick Accent
This is an alternative way to type accent characters and can come in useful when a keyboard doesn't support a specific accent with a quick key combo. In order to use the Quick Accent utility, open the PowerToy settings, select the Quick Accent tab and turn on the enable toggle.
It is activated by holding down the key for the character you want to add an accent to - then press the activation key (space key or left/right arrow keys). If you continue to hold, an overlay to choose the accented character will appear.
You can limit the available characters by selecting a character set from the settings menu, these sets include Catalan, currency, Hebrew, Turkish and Welsh.
