EPX CEO Dan Ellis travelled to the NEC in Birmingham this week to be a panellist at the ChannelLive conference, the UK’s largest ICT channel event.
Channel Live's conference programme has become a keystone of the sector. The two-day programme has been designed to trigger insightful conversations, educate the community, and provide practical business advice.
Making sustainability an expectation
Dan joined Andrew Gomarsall, the co-founder of Bioscope Technologies and Executive Director of n2s, Sarwar Khan, the Global Head of Sustainability at BT, Yasmin Ahmed, founder of Smart Cellular, and Phil Kemish, CEO and co-founder of Reboxed, for the panel on ‘A Call to Action - How does the channel take customers on that journey - making sustainability and the circular economy become an expectation.’
The event covers connectivity and networks, hardware, channel management software, unified comms and management services, channel support services and more.
PC Powersave
Our EPX directors founded PC Powersave - a power-saving initiative for computer systems that enables businesses to reduce energy consumption.
PC Powersave saves energy with intelligent shutdowns, subtle CPU power management, dynamic power profiles and rogue process alerting tools - all working together to reduce the energy consumption of computer systems. The same tools that reduce energy on desktop computers extend the runtime of laptop batteries, prolonging their lifespan. Regular reports are then generated to assess how much power is being saved.
We first tested the innovative solution within our own business to reduce our carbon emissions on IT equipment, and we are now working with our customers to roll it out across the UK.
IT decision-makers and ESG
Many IT decision-makers consider Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and sustainability a top priority for their business - but they are also still undergoing digital transformation.
This means the IT support providers they are working with are best placed to guide them in a proactive approach to protecting the environment and implementing practices to reduce, reuse and recycle - and that is a role that EPX has fully taken on board in the last 12 months.
Supply chain vulnerabilities exposed
Supply chains have become a focal point for cyberattacks - especially in industries with large supply chains such as manufacturing. The compromise of a single entity within the supply chain can have a huge effect and impact several businesses involved in the chain. Cybercriminals exploit this and use vulnerabilities to gain unauthorised access to a network of interconnected businesses.
Green IT
Dan has been identified as one of the first Managed Service Provider owners in the world to be betting so heavily on multiple green IT, power management and transitional energy services.
He says: “We regularly advise other IT companies and local businesses on sustainability in the IT supply chain, including presenting at business communication events such as ChannelLive on the importance of recycling computer equipment and ensuring IT firms do not generate excessive amounts of e-waste.
Sustainable systems and goals
“Equipment that EPX no longer needs is not sent to landfill or binned - computers are erased and given to a local charity that relocates them to those who need them - in the past 12 months, we have donated around 300 computers to support the community.
“We also meet with other companies to help them get their businesses off the ground and put in systems that will enable them to meet sustainability goals.”
