Microsoft has been releasing security updates and product updates for the Windows 10 product for many years now, giving tech support to IT companies such as ours or users directly.
This support will come to an end on the 14th of October 2025.
If your company is running on Windows 10 this means that your operating system will no longer receive security updates or technical assistance, you will no longer receive free software updates from Windows Update, insurance companies will almost certainly invalidate your policies for cyber insurance if you have any obsolete equipment on your network and your Cyber essentials will be rendered non-certifiable.
If you are already looking at transitioning from Windows 10, or are looking to do it in 2025, we have put together five steps to support you - or you can Book a call with EPX today.
Step 1: Evaluate your current system and needs
Before upgrading, you need to understand your current setup:
- Inventory assessment: Take stock of your hardware and software. Determine if your devices meet the requirements for a new operating system like Windows 11 or alternative platforms.
- Compatibility check: Identify which programmes or tools need upgrading, replacing, or reconfiguring.
- Business impact analysis: Assess how the transition will affect daily operations to minimise disruption.
How EPX can help: Our team thoroughly evaluates your infrastructure, providing a detailed report and tailored recommendations to align with your goals.
Step 2: Plan your transition
Transitioning requires a plan:
- Timeline setting: Create a realistic schedule that considers critical business operations.
- Backup strategy: Secure your data to avoid loss during the migration.
- Stakeholder coordination: Communicate the plan to your team and address any concerns.
How EPX can help: We can draft comprehensive migration plans, ensuring all bases are covered, from downtime minimisation to user training.
Step 3: Prepare your systems for migration
Preparation is key:
- Hardware upgrades: Ensure your devices are optimised for the new system.
- Software updates: Install necessary updates for compatibility.
- Security reinforcement: Check firewalls, antivirus programmes, and other defences to prevent vulnerabilities.
How EPX can help: We handle all the technical prep, from hardware upgrades to advanced security enhancements, ensuring your systems are ready.
Step 4: Execute the transition
Making the move:
- Step-by-step installation: Roll out the new OS in phases to test stability before a full deployment.
- Data migration: Transfer files, settings, and configurations securely.
- Testing: Ensure all systems and software functions as expected.
How EPX can help: Our team supervises and executes the migration, troubleshooting issues to avoid delays.
Step 5: Post-transition support and optimisation
Once the transition is complete:
- Training and onboarding: Ensure your team has the right knowledge for the new system and that new employees are briefed as part of onboarding.
- Performance monitoring: Identify and address any post-migration challenges.
- Regular maintenance: Keep your systems optimised and secure.
How EPX can help: We provide ongoing support, including training, monitoring, and system fine-tuning to ensure lasting success.
